Our Priorities

Manny Yekutiel is running for supervisor because this moment calls for new leadership that listens, acts, and brings people together to make San Francisco work for everyone. He will work hard to deliver on three priority areas: Affordability, Safety, and Joy.

Affordability

San Francisco can’t succeed unless people from all walks of life can actually afford to live here—renters, families, artists, small business owners and anyone building a life in this city.

Manny knows the high cost-of-living creates financial stress and hardship, worsens homelessness, makes it harder for small businesses to hire and stay in business, and drives residents out of our communities. As a result neighborhoods become less stable and less inclusive, populated only by the lucky ones who arrived decades ago or the lucky ones who can afford the San Francisco of today.

To make our neighborhoods more affordable we will:

  • Build 10,000 new units of housing in the district in eight years.

We will create a special use district on Market Street to spur new density, while reducing financial and administrative burdens on new housing development. See my housing policy here.

  • Make public education an easier choice for parents.

We will support school board members who are focused on student success over politics. Reforming the opaque and convoluted lottery system is a top priority. We will advocate for a school choice system that is easier to navigate and provides more certainty to parents who want to choose public school.

  • Provide free child care for all parents.

We will create an integrated system so that all parents who need child care can send their children to a local provider. We will make it free by unlocking the funding that the City has already raised through Baby Prop C to create truly universal child care.

Safety

Manny believes every block in our district should feel and everybody should know that they are safe.

He’s organized hundreds of trash cleanups, lit up dark streets, and brought our community together. Manny wants to confront open-air drug markets and unsafe encampments with urgency, accountability, and compassion.

To ensure we all feel safe in our communities we will:

  • Ensure we have a fully-staffed SFPD police department who can respond quickly, investigate crimes thoroughly, and maintain neighborhood presence.

  • Get deadly drugs off the street and out of people’s bodies.

We will have combine a zero tolerance for drug dealing and using on the streets with an expansion of resources, services, and drug treatment for drug users. We must arrest drug dealers, disrupt their networks, and keep them away from our most vulnerable.

  • Bring those suffering from mental illness into care, where they can get the help that they require.

We will ensure the City builds enough treatment and recovery capacity to get people off the street and into treatment, recovery, and other forms of real support. We will advocate for a longer term psychiatric holds to ensure people can get stable and connected to resources and on the path towards true recovery and independence.

Joy

Manny believes vibrant neighborhoods, connected communities, and social events are what makes our communities feel special.

In 2018, he started Manny’s, a community-focused meeting and learning place, which has hosted and continues to host many events to engage and involve the local community. Additionally, along with Mayor Daniel Lurie, he co-founded the Civic Joy Fund, which funds 17 trash pickups weekly, night markets around the city, block parties including Downtown First Thursdays, public art, and numerous volunteer activities.

To add a double-dose of joy to our community we will:

  • Fill every vacant storefront and bring life back to our commercial corridors.

We will cut through the red tape so small businesses can easily open, survive, and thrive. We will massively simplify zoning rules and building code requirements in commercial areas so customer-serving businesses can open without unnecessary hurdles and delays. See my Vacant Storefront Policy here.

  • Invest in our public spaces and inject new life into these spaces.

We will make public spaces more welcoming for families, seniors and all our neighbors. We will remake Jane Warner Plaza, Harvey Milk Plaza, Church and Market, and build real town squares in all of the neighborhood. We will work with the SFMTA to repave Market street from Castro to Octavia, reimagine Market street downtown, and invest in our slow street infrastructure.

  • Create more opportunities for people to build community, see each other, and connect with their friends and neighbors.

We will activate neighborhoods with more fun free events and partnerships that draw people in and build community and lasting, meaningful relationships.
